Central Library, Manchester, U.K., by Robin Gosnall |
you make my heart beat faster;
you're full of words of wisdom
spread out for me to master.
With my precious ticket
waving in the air
I can own a little bit
of every book in there...
My eyes eat words for breakfast,
chomp knowledge into chunks
of easy, bite sized pieces
when its time for lunch.
A volume here, a volume there
will fill my tum for tea
with recipes, or pictures,
as I gobble what I see
in my imagination...
and all of it is free!
So I'm a happy bookworm.
Leave me to browse in peace
among this paper paradise -
may its glory never cease.
Written for Tess at The Mag,
Skillful, witty and wise...
ReplyDeleteYes, I'd like to browse too. Well done!
ReplyDeleteDidn't ever see you, Cad, when I studied in the Central Ref - as we called it. Well rhymed! Sounds as if you read a lot of Wordsworth et al!
ReplyDeleteEt Al was one of my best friends...can't say the same for Wordsworth. What a shame our paths never crossed, either.
DeleteOde to a Library .... nice!!!
ReplyDeleteI shall just jog on and leave you to browse in peace ;-) And please tell Et Al, he still owes me a pint and btw, a very enjoyable read here as well.
ReplyDeleteWords for breakfast...mmm...yeah...
ReplyDeleteOh, me too!
ReplyDeleteI think it will still be several years off, but I can see the time coming when governments will no longer support public libraries because of budget constraints and so many books being available online, which makes me sad.
