if your partner is a hulk,
for often those with larger frames
dance lightly on their feet. I came
to understand this well,
and there are stories I could tell
of dance hall days
which might amaze
those who read my words today.
I well remember Gladys May,
a rotund lass. But like a feather
she would float, and I could never
once deny
our dancing feet managed to fly
around the floor better than most.
And that's no boast,
but honest truth.
Ah, long lost youth!
Where did you go? And when?
I know I wish you'd come again!
A tongue in cheek offering for the Mag 135, with thanks to Tess

some larger men are smooth dancers! Nicely put! and thanks to you for your nice comments!
ReplyDeleteOliver Hardy was a good example. Very light on his feet for a bulky man. See here
DeleteOnce again I find myself admiring your rhyming couplets. They sure deserve a clap or two.
ReplyDeleteI have many fond memories of dancing at country/western clubs when I was single... this brings them back.
ReplyDeleteHahaha - deeee-light-ful!
ReplyDeleteGiggle...
ReplyDeleteAh! Those nights, danced away with Ada in your arms... another funny witty ditty!
ReplyDeleteI honestly thought I was going to see Ada's head on Venus. :) You are quite talented with your rhyme... perhaps Ada won't like you reminiscing about Gladys May... ?
ReplyDeleteMadame - you know not what effect your remark has had. :)
DeleteCad with his usual rhymes! Big guys float better on water. Dancing may be an extension of that talent, floating on air! Nicely!

Absolutely true and lovely. k.
ReplyDeleteAs a curvaceous woman, I adore this ode.
ReplyDeleteLoved the 'rotund lass'.
ReplyDeleteI well remember Gladys May. Tho with me it was more Gladys May Not. :-)
ReplyDeleteCaddoc had better hope that Ada doesn't start asking questions about his Gladys May, or I could foresee problems! Though he sometimes gets huffy with me, when I whirl Mrs T around in a dance...
DeleteYou've got me dancing on air!
ReplyDeleteCurves are back in vogue, precisely because they look good on the dance floor ;)
ReplyDeleteThis was a lot of rollicking fun.
Love your plus size beauty...there are moments I wish I could go back in time and recapture.
ReplyDeleteA charming poem, Cad! Really, often the 'rotund' are as light on their feet as the svelte. I knew someone like that; and she was the best dancer one could ever imagine. I did love those dance hall days myself. Your poem tweaked my memory.
ReplyDeleteNice rhyming couplets ~ I admire those people who are rounded figure but are light on their feet...very graceful indeed ~
ReplyDelete=D
ReplyDeleteVery true, and God bless Gladys May for leaving such lovely memories :)
