Pink Balloon

Childhood,
complete with a fairytale castle.
Then, the whole world had a rosy glow.
When does the colour fade?
When is transition made?
When the balloon bursts,
where does it go?

A rather grown up offering for  Monday's Child, I'm afraid! The illustration bkm gave us, is by Kay Akers.
And now I've linked  it to the Poetry Pantry as well, in the hope that more people will discover me behind that pink door...

Haven

Shipwreck-struts stand proud on island beach;
they act as frames to painted sea and sky
whose distant mists sheer-swirl in pre-dawn light
which promises the day will be set fair.

Beyond, a rocky outcrop adds a form
indicative of larger world far from
this haven, with its cove of solitude.
The moment serves to fill the mind with peace.

This is a detail taken from Jinksy's In Tandem painting this week. It prompted me to wax lyrical, and I thought it may be uplifting enough to count as a Poetry Jam entry for tomorrow, for although solitude won't lead to a better world, encouraging a little more peace in it would be a good thing. And now I've linked it to The Poetry Pantry as well - by golly, I'm a gad about this week!

Late Versus Early

Here are 55 words for Thursday, which makes them early for Mr Knowitall's "Friday Flash", but very late for Alicia's Maffick Monday  "Hair Colour Addict" - both of which blogs I shall eventually link to this post.

(Thinks:-  Time is a misconception. There is only NOW.)

My cousin was a red head - or was it a brunette?
She had so many changes, I wouldn't like to bet
on which she started out with, it would be hard to tell,
for when she wed a skin head, she shaved hers off as well!!

She now looks like a porcupine- Oh, dear!

Roadkill?

Road slithers beneath tyres rushing
over sunburned surface in frustration.

"Faster, ever faster!" roars a devil
inside the accelerator pedal, daring
driver to abandon common sense.

Signs and markings on the road ahead
mesmerise unwary mind; flashing
signals fail to get their message across.

This may be another journey where
the final destination's not in doubt.

See Jinksy's In Tandem for more passing traffic options...

Wearing Diamonds?

If daisies were diamonds
my lawn would be rich,
but they join the buttercups
and both are a bitch!

For Alicia.
