What are friends for?

After seeing the dilemma of one who shall be nameless on G-Man’s Friday 55 post today, Ada* was only too pleased to be able to come to the rescue of a gentleman in need of support.
She did, however, suggest he chose a less startling colour if he wished to remain incognito for much longer.

*You can read how Ada ended up with such a costume, if you go and visit her at home, HERE

A Likely Tale!

On a day when there isn't much work to be done
I like to go off and just sit in the sun.
With my rod and my line I can have a good time
fishing....

A trusty sombrero I clamp on my head -
or sometimes, I wear a fedora, instead
while I sit in the cool by a riverside pool,
fishing...

As for catching a fish...I don't have much luck -
though one time I did nearly hook me a duck-
but there by the stream I can certainly dream...
wishing...

Posted for  Mag 102, thanks to Tess and Kandinsky, and linked to IGWRT Open Link Monday, and HERE at Wordgathering, for my Sense of Place offereing.

A Different Ancient Mariner

"So near and yet so far" he  thought.
" My boat is out of reach!
Those pirates stole my treasure trove
and dumped me on this beach."

The luckless mariner gave vent
to feelings impolite.
(I won't attempt to write his words.
They might give you a fright!)

But as he fretted, trapped in sand,
he came to realise,
his fingers still had room to move.
"Oh my! What a surprise!

"With slow and steady movements
I can claw to reach the top
of this sandy, tight laced overcoat.
My struggles will not stop!"

His fingers scraped and scrabbled too,
and inch by inch they rose
until they broke the surface sand-
though slowly, heaven knows!

But patience was rewarded then.
A new, deep hole he dug
to free his entire body parts.
"There! See? I am no mug!"

And off he rowed to pastures new,
to leave the pirate's life.
He settled for a land-locked job -
and married a rich wife!

Gadzooks! Toads and Magpies make chaps do strange things!

Snakes Alive?

 It's better to pass
by a snake in the grass
as it slithers along close to earth
for a bite on the ass**
is no cause for mirth,
ergo give snake a very wide berth.

**Here we are into the realms of pronunciation. Those from the North of England please read 'ass' to rhyme with 'pass' and 'grass', whereas those from the South will need to substitutes 'arse' to rhyme with pahss and glahss.
Magpie Tales gave us this picture by Henri Rousseau. Thank you Tess.

A Gardener's Lament

"Leaves is a menace"
says our old gardener Sam
"They drives me wild daily.
They don't give a damn
that I sweeps 'em up quick like,
an' fills up me barrer.

When that there wind blows
they drops like an arrer
all over me pathways an’ lawn -
I ‘as to sweep on, till they’re gorn!"

This happy little ditty happens to have 55words for G-Man, and I've combined it with Jinksy's In Tandem, as I don't believe in wasting anything.

Now Ada has elbowed me to one side, and wants to add her pennyworth to this post. Alright, Beloved, stop digging me in the ribs. Ouch! OK. The keyboard is all yours...

"Caddoc and his silly rhymes!
That man is such a fool.
They didn't teach him common sense
when he went to school.
He's right about our gardener Sam,
who gets muddled with his words.
Although a rather handsome man,
Sam can sound absurd
on more than one occasion,
for to use correct Queen's English
he needs gentle persuasion.
"Not 'barrer' Sam! It's 'barrow'
wherein you scoop the leaves,
which fall down straight as arrows,
not 'arrers' if you please!"
But then, nobody's perfect,
and some causes are lost...
Ask Caddoc, for he often meets
the bite of Ada's frost!"

My Kind Of Tanka!

Confucius he say
don't keep your engine revving
when your wheel is stuck.

It only lead to trouble-
land you further in the muck.

Bring humour in poetry up to date, says I! Thank you Magpie Tales for the prompt. ( I see Trellissimo is on the same mission HERE.)

Man v. Garden

When young, every boy wants a large garden to run around in. The older he gets, the more he wishes he had a smaller one when he's playing "man versus garden".

This is my Sunday 160 for Monkey Man!

It's The Thought That Counts...

Add spice to life with a little gift
for your Beloved! It will lift
her spirits, I’ll be bound
if the right gift you have found
to flatter her, enhance her charms,
she’ll welcome you with open arms…
But be on the lookout for a fight
If you choose to give her...
fishnet tights!

This is my fun 55 for MrKnowitall, ready for Friday. It was inspired by a Blogpal's post I read today - thanks, Trellissimo and of course, my Beloved Ada!

Sometimes I Sits And Thinks...

and sometimes I just sits...and sometimes, I wander Blogland and learn odd things...like on THIS POST (click to read it for yourself) where I found a challenge I couldn't resist. So here is my very first attempt at a Rondolet.

When love grows cold
don't mourn its passing, but reflect,
when love grows cold,
a different story may be told.
Let Cupid's arrow not deflect!

View not its piercings with regret
when love grows cold.

Umbrella Sucide?

Many clear raindrops
fall onto dead umbrella.
Blood drips from its spokes.

I'm afraid the prompt on this week's Mapie Tales set my warped sense of humour in motion!
Sorry, Tess!
